Paul Jacoulet: Complete Collection of Woodblock Prints

Product Description

Born in Paris in 1896 and raised in Japan from the age of three, Paul Jacoulet was a unique painter and printmaker who spent most of his life in Japan. In the early Showa era he founded his own print studio and began producing traditional woodblock prints, collaborating with master carvers and printers to create around 170 works distinguished by their vivid colors, in the spirit of Edo-period ukiyo-e.

After World War II, his dazzling woodblock prints drew strong interest from General MacArthur and many other members of the Allied occupation forces, leading to numerous retrospective exhibitions in both Japan and the United States. Marking 60 years since his death, this volume is the first definitive, all-color complete collection of his woodblock prints.
